To my valued patients and friends,

It brings me great joy to inform you that, as of July 1st, 2023, I have officially embarked on a new chapter in my life by transitioning into retirement. I am filled with excitement as I embrace this upcoming season and eagerly anticipate the opportunities it holds.

As I look back on my career, I am profoundly grateful for the diverse roles I had the privilege of undertaking. Notably, my service as an optometrist in the Navy at the Great Lakes Recruit Training Center and Great Lakes Naval Hospital stands out. Since my arrival in South Bend in 1970, I have been exceptionally fortunate to practice here for the past 53 years.

While I bid farewell to the practice, I am thrilled to introduce you to Dr. Matt Austin, a distinguished and talented addition to the team at Focused Eye Care. Dr. Austin is originally from Mishawaka, IN, and graduated from the Michigan College of Optometry in 2018. He is a proud member of the American Optometric Association and the Indiana Optometric Association. Dr. Austin possesses a keen interest in vision therapy, working with children, and medical eye examinations. During his free time, he enjoys golfing and attending Cubs games at Wrigley Field.

I have complete confidence that I am leaving the practice and my patients in more than capable hands with Dr. Whitney Purtzer and Dr. Matt Austin. It has been an honor and pleasure serving you over the past 53 years. I thank you and your families for being loyal lifetime patients of Focused Eye Care.
